CRBC Senior Wins
Scholarship Award
The next Bryant Gumbel may very well be hanging out at the Cube on Sunday
mornings and Thursday nights. Those of you familiar with HBO’s “Real Sports
with Bryant Gumbel” show know him as an iconic sportscaster whose job is coveted
by thousands of young athletes and sports fans. Council Road member and
Putnam West senior, Malcolm Tubbs, would love to get a sports broadcasting degree
and join Gumbel’s team. And with the help of recent scholarships awarded
to him, he may be on his way.
Tubbs was among the five finalists narrowed down from 3,000 to compete in the
Eskridge Auto Free Ride program. Although he did not win the car, he was
awarded $1,000 from Coppermark Bank and $1,000 from the Eskridge Auto Group.
The other finalists were from Guthrie (2), Harding Charter and Heritage Hall.
CRBC member Janet Milner nominated Malcolm. All nominees had to be seniors in
high school with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Nominees had to navigate a series of
interviews, produce a video explaining why they should receive the scholarships
and car, and to spread the word about the online voting process. Once
the top five finalists were chosen, additional interviews were required as
well as the production of another video.
After the online voting closed, representatives from the Eskridge Auto Group,
Coppermark Bank, KOCO Channel 5, the University of Oklahoma and a local
teacher chose who received the car and the different scholarships.
Malcolm is the son of CRBC members John and Tammy Jensen. John is the head
coach of the PC West football team. Malcolm played both offense and defense on
the West football team, starred in the 2011 production of “The Music Man”, was
voted “Mr. Patriot” by the student body, starred in the MTV special "If You
Really Knew Me" and is a member of Student Council. He says he would deeply
appreciate the prayers of CRBC members as he determines where to attend school
this fall.
