Slovenia - July 30-August 7, 2012

Slovenia is an incredibly beautiful little Country at the southern end of the Julian Alps east of Italy.  In 1918 Slovenia obtained it own sovereignty after being controlled by the Roman Empire and Hapsburg Dynasty only to be merged again into Yugoslavia after WWII.  Twenty years ago they finally reached full autonomy.  Since then they have become increasingly secularized.  It’s also an incredibly lost place.  According to Operation World 2010 Slovenia is .09% Christian which makes them the 14th least evangelized country in the world.  Out of 196 countries in our world Slovenia is 14th from the bottom in percentage of evangelical Christians.  That’s less than Iraq, Iran, and almost all of the countries we think of as non-Christian.  Our strategy will be to utilize the gifts of the team to engage people.  Some teams will distribute Bibles as Slovenes have just recently received the Bible printed in their own language.  Bible Clubs and building prayer benches are also a possibility.  Since Slovenia is an adventure sports paradise (skiing, biking, rafting hiking, etc.) other teams may use adventure recreation as a platform for connection.
