Encourage One Another
1 Thessalonians 5:11; Romans 12:9-21
Rick Thompson
The Bible teaches that
we are to be in life together. These
passages teach us some very specific principles on biblical community. The Bible does not contemplate a life of isolation
and aloneness for the Christian.
- What it means to be
devoted to one another…
The Bible teaches that when we commit our lives to Christ,
we are supernaturally included in the community of grace.
1. It means we are all family
This radical teaching informs us about the nature of
Christian relationships.
2. It means we don’t discriminate in our
love for one another.
This kind of love for one another is not conditional or
dependent on status, power or control.
3. It means we encourage one another
All of us need people in our lives who will give us strength
and courage.
4. It means taking the risks of love.
To love is to risk.
If you love anyone, you will take the risk of being hurt.
5. It means we make sacrifices necessary for
community
Relationships take work and sacrifice.
6. It means we love each other even when it’s
not easy to love
We are to forgive one another as Christ has forgiven
us. We are to love our enemies and bless
those who persecute us.
- How this kind of love
comes to us…
1. Jesus has reconciled us and brought us in
The Bible is a story of failed family relationships. Only Jesus can redeem us and bring us back
in.
2.
We are set free by His grace
