How To Get Started

One of the best ways to get started in the journey at Council Road is through a Sunday morning connection class. While we offer a wide variety of options and it may seem a challenge to find just he right group finding your connection class is as easy as one, two, three.

ONE – Decide which worship service is for you –

  • 9:15 – Classic Council Road – Blend of hymns and choruses, orchestra and robed choir, reverent tone, consistent order of service
  • 10:45 – Emergent – Praise driven, band and worship team, celebratory tone, variety in order of service

TWO – Decide what type of affinity you are looking for in a connection class, by answering two key questions.

  • First Key Question: Are you looking to be part of a married adult group or a single adult group? (While many single adults find their place in a “married” adult connection class, we have numerous options for those who want to fellowship with other singles.)
  • Second Key Question: Do you want to be in a class with people of a similar age or would you rather be in a group of people who live in the same general area as you?

We have five general “affinities” (affinity simply means what people have in common) which we build our connection classes around.

  1. Marital Status – These groups will either be targeted toward single adults or married adults and will be identified as such.
  2. Geographically Based – These groups are generally made up of people who live in three defined geographical areas: Northwest OKC, Yukon/Mustang, and Bethany. They are a mix of both single and married adults and are identified as a “regional” group.
  3. Age Based – These groups are generally arranged around the age of the members of the group. We offer both single and married adult options in this category. We use the terms, Young (20-35), Median (35-55) and Capstone (55 and up), to identify these groups.
  4. Gender Based – These groups are for men or for women only and may contain a mix of single and married adults. They will be identified as “Ladies” or “Mens” groups.
  5. Open Groups – These groups are together, but just not because of any particular affinity. They have just felt a connection to the teacher, the teaching or each other. They will be a mixture of single and married adults and identified as being for “All Adults.”

THREE - Make a plan to visit one class for several weeks in a row. (If you have questions about a particular connection class, feel free to contact Sarah Sutton in the adult ministries office.) If that group does not fit who you are, then visit another class for several more weeks in a row. If you can’t find the right group after trying out three different classes, it may be because God is leading you to help launch a new group or enter into an area of service. In this case, contact Todd Tamura about beginning that process.
